Lake Apopka North Shore Recreational Opportunities

West of Orlando in Central Florida
former farm lands on the North Shore of Lake Apopka are becoming an ecotourism hub. It is here that the collaboration of
multiple partners has resulted in many recreational opportunities. Visitors to the twenty thousand acres of
public land can enjoy more than 15 miles of
multi-use trails, picnic areas, restroom facilities and scenic observation points. Another recreational opportunity at the
property is an 11-mile wildlife drive where visitors can see a host of wildlife
including more than 360 species birds. The property has been a popular birding
destination for many years and wildlife drive
provides broader year-round access for the public in the
comfort of their own vehicle the one-way drive takes about an hour to
complete but visitors are welcome to take their time and stop at the pullover areas. The district’s excited about the opening of the wildlife drive because it offers an additional opportunity for the public to visit and observe the north shore restoration project. With the opening of the loop trail, we had opportunity for people who
wanted to hike or bicycle or horseback ride, the
wildlife drive offers a new opportunity because people who may not have the physical
ability to go there can visit the property in their vehicle and
observe wildlife from their vehicle, and so it offers new group of
people an opportunity to see and observe
wildlife and the restoration project.
